I just picked this up off of the NFL network’s Twitter feed. Now I am not a tweeter, but when it comes to football I read all sources. This is what I got. “ JasonLaCanfora: Elway says it would be his goal to get Tebow to a team where he was in position to revive his career”
Since when is a winning season, going to the playoffs, and winning a playoff game a sign of a person’s career in need of revival? Tim Tebow did really good last year, in all terms relative to football. Every team in the league sets its sights on the playoffs, at the beginning of each season. The fact that Tebow took the Broncos to the playoffs in his second season, and won a game speaks volumes about his ability to manage, and play the game. Even the awkward spin on the ball when Tebow threw it was starting to get worked out into a tight spiral, Why did the Broncos dump him so early in his career? Why were they so lukewarm to Tebow? Certainly his career in not in need of revival. It is Manning who is in desperate need of a career revival.
I hate to make assumptions without all the facts, but since I have not the funds to get to Denver, and cannot get John Elway on the phone, I have to make an assumption based on what I have seen. I think Elway has a problem with Tebow. I think Elway does not like the fact that Tebow has strong convictions about Jesus Christ, and is not afraid to show his convictions. For all we know Elway cannot stand Tebow’s national, and even international popularity. I think this is more of an Elway problem more than it is a Tebow problem.
If I did not know better I would think the Denver Broncos would rather have an avowed satanist than to have Tebow kneeling on the sidelines thanking God after a win. They just do not get it. To Tebow his talent, strength, health, everything he is has everything to do with Jesus Christ. He is a man of strong convictions. Manning on the other hand has never publicly given credit to any diety for his successes, at least not that I have seen, and not in a public way. The Jaguars played against Manning, and the Colts 2 times a years ever since he became a starter for the Colts. In all of those games, not once have I seen him give credit to his creator, whoever he thinks that may be. (I am not saying Manning is a satanist, nor am I advocating everyone should give a public display of thanks to their creator)
The contrast between Manning, and Tebow runs on a different track than the one everyone is looking at. Perhaps Tebow would not join Elway, and others in the front office for a cocktail, but Manning will. I do not know what the problem is in Denver. Could it be Elway’s ego is getting crowded out? Again, I do not know.
What I do know, strictly speaking football is that Tebow is an up and coming star, while Manning is seeing the sun set on his career. Manning may give the Broncos what they want right now, but there is nothing long-term there. The prospect of Denver picking up a good quarterback in drafts to come are not guaranteed. Look at the experiences of many teams in the NFL trying to find a decent starter. Not only did Denver give up a decent starter, they gave up a player whose star is rising, and brought in a senior citizen.
That is how I see it. Do not give me any flack for the senior citizen comment. I am older than Manning. He may last for a little while, but he will not be playing when Tebow is in his prime.
